Mardi Gras After The Apocalypse
Big Class is an organization dedicated to cultivating and supporting the voices of New Orleans’ writers ages 6-18 through creative collaborations with schools and communities. Through Antenna, artists were asked to create work inspired by the stories of students in the Big Class Open Studio Program, each imagining what Mardi Gras would look like after the end of days.
For this new work, Amaya Smith wrote a story - ‘Na Let Me Tell You a Story’. Then Natalie McLaurin and Vanessa Centeno made tactile monster sculptures inspired by the tale and I created an animation with Amaya’s voice narrating the story. The video was installed inside a monster’s mouth and you could rub the big fluffy pink monster when watching the screen!
